Requirements
- Knowledge of the United States political system.
- Personal interest in U.S. election policy; professional experience covering election policy is an added benefit.
- Professional or academic writing or legislative research experience.
- Experience using spreadsheets to manage large quantities of data.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to write about complex topics in a neutral, clear, and concise manner.
- Excellent writing, proofreading, and organizational skills, and familiarity with style guides.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff across multiple departments and to seek and respond to feedback.
- Interest in or experience using AI tools to increase productivity.
- Some familiarity with Google Suite, Slack, and Asana is helpful.
- Must have a computer with internet access and work remotely from a home location.
Responsibilities
- Conduct original research and analysis on election policy topics.
- Develop knowledge of election administration policies and procedures across all 50 states, including policy changes, debates, and litigation.
- Identify when news events require updates to Ballotpedia articles.
- Identify opportunities for new election policy articles and analysis.
- Build and manage assigned articles according to Ballotpedia's writing guidelines and quality standards.
- Contribute to the Election Policy Legislation Tracker.
- Monitor breaking news and update articles in a timely manner.
- Develop new articles in response to news as needed.
- Contribute to Ballotpedia newsletter products.
- Use and create procedure checklist documentation, and keep the managing editor informed of project progress.
