Requirements

  • At least seven years of relevant professional experience in curriculum design, instruction, coaching, research, assessment, program leadership, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in College and Career Ready Standards, ELA instructional shifts, early literacy, and the Science of Reading.
  • Understanding of the K-12 ELA education political and policy landscape.
  • Ability to analyze complex instructional materials and synthesize evidence into clear, actionable recommendations for diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex initiatives and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Skill in facilitating adult learning, coaching educators or colleagues, and building alignment across groups.
  • Exceptional written and spoken communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in Google Suite and MS Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • Availability for late-afternoon and evening reviewer meetings when scheduled.
  • Residency in and authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support reviews of early literacy and foundational skills instructional materials against relevant standards, current research, and EdReports criteria.
  • Analyze instructional materials using expertise in early literacy, the Science of Reading, learning progressions, and research-supported instructional practices.
  • Train and support educator-reviewers and calibrate review teams to produce consistent, evidence-rich reviews.
  • Collaborate across content teams to update and refine review tools and processes based on research, feedback, and evolving educational trends.
  • Coach review teams and help them reach consensus on key educational criteria.
  • Use independent judgment to resolve complex content and review questions, escalating broader strategic issues as appropriate.
  • Engage with publishers and other external stakeholders to communicate the review process.
  • Explain review results to educators, districts, states, and partner nonprofits.
  • Serve as an early literacy subject matter expert on cross-functional organizational projects and initiatives.
  • Travel nationally as needed for organizational needs and professional learning.
