Requirements
- Have substantial legal experience.
- Be licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
- Have proven expertise in at least two legal domains, ideally commercial alongside privacy or litigation.
- Be comfortable handling commercial contracts, privacy and data protection, employment, IP, and litigation matters.
- Have working knowledge of data protection regimes such as GDPR and their application to a consumer software product.
- Have experience supporting a tech or SaaS company.
- Write clearly for colleagues without legal training.
- Be ready to own complex matters end to end as the only in-house lawyer.
- Provide practical guidance that helps teams understand tradeoffs and move forward.
- Be comfortable collaborating across time zones and cultures in a mostly asynchronous environment.
- Be excited to use AI in your work regularly.
Responsibilities
- Review and negotiate customer and vendor agreements.
- Answer teammates’ legal questions with clear guidance and tradeoffs.
- Update policies to reflect how the company works.
- Own legal matters across commercial contracts, employment, privacy and data protection, IP, and litigation.
- Advise Product and Engineering on privacy and data protection.
- Support People on employment questions across the distributed team.
- Advise Marketing on brand, content, and trademark matters.
- Decide which specialist matters to route to external counsel.
- Build legal templates, systems, and documentation.
