Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of construction estimating experience, ideally within New Zealand or Australia.
  • Ability to prepare estimates from varied and incomplete project documentation.
  • Experience with quantity take-offs, construction cost calculations, and subcontractor pricing.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel capability.
  • Proficiency in CostX or comparable construction estimating software.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace and PDF measurement and document management tools.
  • Strong written and spoken English and confident communication across stakeholders.
  • High numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing deadlines independently.
  • Willingness to support payroll and administration when required.
  • A qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred; equivalent practical experience is considered.
  • Experience estimating commercial cladding, façade, or roofing projects is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cladding systems, materials, and installation processes is preferred.
  • Familiarity with New Zealand or Australian construction suppliers and pricing is preferred.
  • CAD or AutoCAD capability, payroll or construction administration background, and basic project coordination experience are advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare estimates and quotations for cladding and construction projects from plans, drawings, photographs, scopes of work, and other documentation, including incomplete information.
  • Complete quantity take-offs and calculate labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs with appropriate wastage allowances.
  • Identify gaps or inconsistencies, ask clarifying questions, and document assumptions, inclusions, and exclusions.
  • Source and compare supplier and subcontractor pricing, and maintain organised quotation and pricing records.
  • Communicate with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, project stakeholders, and the business owner to clarify scopes, material requirements, and pricing.
  • Manage multiple quotations, monitor deadlines, and provide progress updates to the business owner.
  • Assist with payroll preparation by collecting and verifying timesheets, entering approved hours, and maintaining payroll records.
  • Provide administrative support by organising files, updating registers and trackers, assisting with correspondence, and developing templates and checklists.
  • Where applicable, assist with basic CAD mark-ups, drawing updates, and organised drawing files.
  • As the role develops, assist with project schedules, procurement tracking, variation management, and construction administration.
