Requirements
- Have 5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years working with endpoint management, software packaging, patch management, or MDM solutions.
- Have experience with endpoint management or packaging tools such as Intune, SCCM/ConfigMgr, Jamf, Munki, Chocolatey, winget, or Homebrew.
- Bring strong Windows packaging experience with MSI, EXE, and MSIX installers, silent installation switches, registry keys, installation contexts, SYSTEM execution, and x64/arm64 architectures.
- Bring strong macOS packaging experience with PKG and DMG handling, application bundles, bundle IDs, universal and architecture-specific builds, and application patching.
- Have strong PowerShell and Bash skills for troubleshooting and modifying installer wrappers and automation scripts.
- Have hands-on TypeScript experience building and maintaining resolvers and automation components using Node, Deno, or similar runtimes.
- Have experience with YAML-based declarative systems and attention to schemas, metadata consistency, and maintainability.
- Have strong GitHub Actions CI/CD experience, including multi-stage workflows, automated validation, VM-based testing, and pull request processes.
- Understand HTTP behavior and software distribution patterns, including redirects, stable download URLs, version discovery, CDN restrictions, authentication barriers, and bot protection.
- Be able to diagnose installation and patching failures from logs, metadata, and exit codes, including without access to the affected device.
- Be able to reverse-engineer poorly documented installers and assess packaging feasibility and distribution constraints.
- Have experience working with AI coding agents and reviewing, correcting, validating, and unblocking agent-generated code and pull requests.
- Have strong English communication skills for async work, technical documentation, feasibility decisions, and pull request descriptions.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end delivery and reliability of third-party application packages across Windows and macOS.
- Analyze third-party installers and determine installation, update, removal, detection, and architecture behavior.
- Build and maintain URL resolvers, version-resolution logic, and automation components using TypeScript.
- Troubleshoot installer wrappers, automation scripts, installation failures, and patching failures.
- Improve existing packages, including architecture-specific behavior, detection, and patching.
- Automate package validation, including VM-based testing and multi-stage CI/CD workflows.
- Assess packaging feasibility and identify applications that should be declined or limited to inventory-only support.
- Turn recurring manual work and escalations into improvements to tooling, resolvers, validation, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Maintain playbooks and knowledge bases to help others reproduce and support the work.
