Requirements

  • Have 3 to 5 years of experience in HR operations, people operations, or HR generalist roles supporting an India-based team.
  • Bring hands-on payroll and onboarding experience.
  • Have working knowledge of Indian labour law and statutory compliance, including EPF, ESI, tax withholding, and the Shops and Establishments Act.
  • Have experience building HR processes or policies where none existed.
  • Be proficient with HRIS and payroll platforms; Deel is strongly preferred.
  • Be proficient with Excel/Sheets and documentation tools such as Notion, Google Drive, and Linear.
  • Communicate clearly in written and verbal English and handle sensitive conversations with discretion.
  • Be able to overlap with US Eastern hours for part of the day.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with hiring managers to define roles and coordinate sourcing, screening, and interview scheduling.
  • Run background checks, prepare and send offer letters, handle candidate negotiations within approved bands, and maintain hiring documentation.
  • Own the new-hire experience from offer acceptance through the first 90 days, coordinating access, equipment, training, documentation, and check-ins.
  • Build and run employee engagement activities, including pulse checks, skip-levels, stay conversations, and exit interviews, and report themes to leadership.
  • Own employee processes for India holidays, leave, attendance, and coverage, and draft and roll out related people policies.
  • Support managers with documentation, performance conversations, and corrective action.
  • Administer monthly payroll, resolve discrepancies and adjustments, and process offboardings and full and final settlements.
  • Maintain employee and payroll data confidential, organized, and audit-ready, and keep ahead of statutory deadlines.
