Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • At least 5 years of directly related experience in multi-jurisdictional sales and use tax compliance, returns preparation, or tax operations.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency, particularly Excel, including Power Pivot, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, and related functions.
  • Deep knowledge of jurisdiction configuration concepts, including nexus, exemptions, marketplace rules, filing calendars, reporting, and transaction data.
  • Working knowledge of transaction flows and their downstream impact on returns preparation, mapping, and filing.
  • Familiarity with transaction tax calculation, transaction data flow, returns mapping, and returns filing automation.
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI-powered tools in tax compliance workflows and identify practical automation opportunities.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities for complex tax compliance scenarios.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet strict filing deadlines.
  • Availability to work during standard U.S. business hours.
  • Ability to coach and mentor colleagues and contribute to continuous operational improvement.
  • A Master’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Experience with a Big 4 accounting firm, a large corporate tax department within a multinational organization, or a large ERP integration environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and file multi-jurisdictional sales and use tax, business and occupation, and gross receipts tax returns.
  • Manage a portfolio of accounting firms and serve as the primary contact for returns-related questions, escalations, and compliance guidance.
  • Research and resolve jurisdictional tax notices, documenting communications throughout the resolution process.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of sales and use tax content, jurisdictional requirements, and tax-form changes.
  • Lead onboarding and validation for new returns customers using the returns platform and associated workflows.
  • Identify and implement automation and process improvements to reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and strengthen returns operations.
  • Use and critically evaluate AI-powered tools for return preparation, anomaly detection, notice pattern recognition, and data reconciliation.
  • Support implementation, training, documentation, and team enablement initiatives.
  • Train and mentor junior colleagues and provide expertise on complex troubleshooting and compliance issues.
