Requirements
- 5–10 years of produce inspection or produce quality experience.
- Deep expertise in USDA grading standards, PACA regulations, and fresh commodity quality assessment.
- Hands-on experience inspecting, grading, and evaluating quality across a broad range of fresh produce commodities.
- Strong knowledge of growing regions, seasonal transitions, weather impacts, and produce supply chain dynamics.
- Experience building and managing supplier relationships with growers, shippers, or produce vendors.
- Experience utilizing Claude or other AI tools for job-related activities.
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining produce specifications in retail, foodservice, or DTC environments.
- Experience supporting quality operations across multiple distribution or fulfillment centers.
- Proven success leading supplier corrective action programs and quality investigations.
- Experience training and standardizing quality practices across distributed teams.
- Ability to travel approximately 30–40% of the time.
Responsibilities
- Own supplier quality and accountability by maintaining relationships with growers/shippers and managing corrective actions.
- Lead produce specification governance, including development and maintenance of standards for bulk and co-manufactured produce.
- Provide technical leadership across the supply chain, advising on assortment, supplier capabilities, and seasonal risk mitigation.
- Champion food safety and regulatory compliance as the primary USDA liaison, monitoring critical control points.
- Develop and train fulfillment center quality teams on inspection, grading, and communication practices.
- Drive continuous improvement by analyzing quality data and customer feedback to reduce defect rates.
- Lead specialty quality programs, including in-house retain testing to validate shelf-life performance.
