Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent with 3–4 years of experience in a medical environment (or Associate's degree with 2+ years).
- 3–4 years of experience with medical terminology.
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
- Strong understanding of insurance authorization processes, guidelines, and third-party payer practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and manage a high-volume workload.
- Proven capability to direct others' activities and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve team and operational concerns.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the initial point of contact for questions and issues related to insurance authorization activities.
- Oversee daily operations and allocate workload among team members based on volume and priorities.
- Ensure patient visits and procedures receive required authorization before services are rendered.
- Review authorization denials, identify trends, and implement process improvements to support revenue optimization.
- Train, coach, mentor, and support insurance authorization specialists.
- Review team members’ work to ensure accuracy, compliance, and consistency.
- Act as a point of contact for clinical nursing teams to resolve urgent or complex authorization cases.
- Establish clear team goals, delegate responsibilities, and monitor performance against expectations.
