Requirements
- Advanced graduate degree (Master’s, J.D., or Ph.D.); Juris Doctor strongly preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in health and welfare employee benefits compliance.
- Significant experience advising on California-specific requirements.
- Demonstrated expertise in federal and state laws affecting employer-sponsored benefit programs.
- Deep knowledge of California-specific mandates (e.g., SFHCSO, Cal-COBRA, disability/paid family leave).
- Proven ability to translate complex legal and regulatory matters into practical guidance for non-legal audiences.
- Strong leadership and project management capabilities.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office for developing professional documents and presentations.
- Strong client service orientation with the ability to manage high volumes of inquiries and training sessions.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior-level legal and regulatory compliance guidance on federal and state health and welfare employee benefits requirements.
- Lead and coordinate compliance activities and projects across the West region.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on California-specific employee benefits compliance, including state and local mandates.
- Monitor, interpret, and translate evolving legislation and regulatory guidance into actionable client recommendations.
- Develop and deliver client-facing compliance resources, including alerts, summaries, presentations, and educational materials.
- Support sales initiatives and prospect meetings by explaining complex regulatory requirements to clients.
- Mentor and guide junior compliance team members in project management, legal research, and professional development.
