Requirements
- Graduate Gemologist degree or previous Gemological Institute of America (GIA) coursework.
- Professional experience in the jewelry industry.
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to articulate information clearly.
- High level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated resourcefulness and the ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Bachelor's degree from a competitive college or university (preferred).
- Experience in project management (preferred).
- Professional experience in gem sourcing or purchasing (preferred).
- Professional experience in customer service environments (preferred).
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and select stones from supplier networks to fit customer budgets and project preferences.
- Serve as the internal authority on gems, advising project managers and resolving gem-related queries.
- Manage the procurement pipeline from initial order through delivery, including identifying and resolving supply issues.
- Perform quality assurance inspections on stones and determine resolutions for any defects.
- Manage day-to-day relationships with suppliers, evaluate new vendors, and resolve invoicing discrepancies.
- Update gem estimates and pricing to maintain cost-competitiveness.
- Develop and implement process improvements for sourcing, procurement, and quality workflows.
