Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science, management, engineering, biology, hydrology, or a related discipline.
  • 5-10 years of environmental experience in a regulatory agency, consulting, or private industry.
  • 5 years of supervisory/leadership experience.
  • Proficiency in management techniques, personnel coordination, and resource management.
  • Deep understanding of state and federal environmental regulations and department policies.
  • Experience with data analysis, testing methods, and contract/grants administration.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to foster interpersonal relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and public speaking.
  • Proven ability in complex problem-solving, critical thinking, and project management.
  • Ability to analyze statutes and policies to make scientific determinations.
  • Ability to be in the office as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage unit operations, including staff supervision, training, and performance monitoring.
  • Ensure all work products are technically sound, accurate, and compliant with State and Federal regulations.
  • Review technical reports and legal documents to support decision-making and problem resolution.
  • Manage the unit budget, including monitoring financial resources for training, hiring, and equipment.
  • Function as a technical and regulatory resource for staff, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Develop and implement process improvement projects to increase efficiency, quality, and output.
  • Prepare annual reports and assist with budget projections and expenditures.
