Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Data Science, or a related technical field.
- 12+ years of experience in software engineering, bioinformatics, or related computational technology disciplines.
- 7+ years of software engineering leadership experience, including people management, hiring, and leadership of technical leads or managers.
- Proven experience leading production-grade software systems, bioinformatics workflows, and data platforms in regulated environments.
- Strong expertise in software architecture, system design, APIs, data integration, workflow orchestration, and scalable computing.
- Experience establishing or improving engineering standards for requirements management, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, and release management.
- Practical understanding of NGS data, clinical genomics workflows, bioinformatics pipelines, and diagnostic reporting systems.
- Experience transforming research prototypes, scripts, or POCs into scalable, validated production workflows.
- Familiarity with quality, regulatory, privacy, security, and audit-readiness frameworks (e.g., CAP/CLIA).
- Technical fluency with Git, Linux, containers, cloud or HPC computing, and monitoring/observability tools.
- Strong judgment and excellent written/verbal communication skills for diverse stakeholder audiences.
Responsibilities
- Define and own the software engineering vision, technical roadmap, delivery priorities, operating model, resource plans, and engineering standards.
- Lead, mentor, hire, and develop software engineers, bioinformatics engineers, technical leads, and managers.
- Oversee the architecture, development, implementation, maintenance, and operational support of production-grade software platforms and bioinformatics workflows.
- Drive modernization initiatives involving legacy systems, workflow orchestration, automation, containerization, cloud and HPC computing, and data integration.
- Establish strong production operations practices, including monitoring, observability, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
- Partner with R&D, clinical laboratory, quality, operations, product, and executive stakeholders to align software roadmaps with scientific and business priorities.
- Guide research algorithms and prototypes through the transition into scalable, validated, and maintainable production workflows.
- Ensure software practices meet quality, regulatory, privacy, security, and audit-readiness expectations in clinical diagnostics.
