Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience (or ~5-7 years with a Master’s degree or CPA).
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting practices, and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing accounting operations, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting, including restricted/unrestricted funds and grant accounting.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, FASB standards, audit processes, and nonprofit tax requirements like Form 990.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and accounting platforms like QuickBooks.
  • Experience with budgeting and financial analysis software.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet reporting deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with executive leadership and board committees.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the outsourced CFO and accounting partner to prepare monthly financial statements and reporting packages.
  • Conduct periodic budget audits and analyze performance across the organization.
  • Support the CFO and participate in Audit and Finance Committee meetings for the Board of Directors.
  • Co-lead the annual budgeting process to ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Oversee accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger activities.
  • Maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and FASB requirements.
  • Manage grant and contract financial activities, ensuring adherence to donor requirements.
  • Coordinate the annual independent audit and support the preparation of IRS Form 990 filings.
