Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; an advanced degree such as an MBA is a plus.
- At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience supporting financial systems.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience with Workday Financial Management, including implementation, configuration, administration, and ongoing support.
- Demonstrated experience with Workday Grants Management and sponsored research processes, preferably within higher education, research, or another grant-funded environment.
- Strong experience developing Workday Financials and Grants reports, including custom and composite reporting.
- Proven ability to gather requirements, conduct gap analyses, map business processes, and design effective system solutions.
- Strong understanding of financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, procurement, accounts payable and receivable, cash management, and FP&A.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to data quality, accuracy, and integrity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across Finance, Accounting, Research Administration, IT, and other stakeholder groups.
- Ability to work effectively within complex, decentralized organizations and manage competing priorities independently.
- Workday Financial Management and/or Workday Grants certifications are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a functional lead for Workday Financials and Workday Grants Management, advising Finance, Accounting, Grant and Contract Services, and Research Administration stakeholders.
- Design, configure, optimize, and govern financial and grants-related processes in alignment with Workday best practices, institutional policies, sponsor requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Support the sponsored research lifecycle, including award setup, budgeting, amendments, cost sharing, facilities and administrative costs, billing, revenue recognition, and closeout.
- Support core financial processes across General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Procurement, Assets, Cash Management, Financial Planning and Analysis, and financial reporting.
- Lead requirements gathering, business process mapping, gap analysis, and future-state design for financial and grants workflows.
- Translate complex business requirements into clear functional specifications, system configurations, and scalable solutions.
- Coordinate system testing, user acceptance testing, issue resolution, implementations, enhancements, and optimization initiatives.
- Develop and maintain Workday Financials and Grants reports, including standard, custom, and composite reports, dashboards, metrics, and ad hoc analyses.
- Establish reporting standards, data governance practices, and analytics priorities that support financial management, research oversight, audit readiness, and leadership decision-making.
- Partner with technical teams to support integrations between Workday and other institutional systems.
