Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant backend or full-stack systems experience.
- 2+ years of engineering management or technical leadership experience.
- Strong experience designing, building, and operating high-scale distributed systems in production.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts such as asynchronous processing, concurrency, and fault tolerance.
- Deep knowledge of relational databases, data modeling, transactions, and database performance.
- Experience with event-driven or queue-based architectures (e.g., SQS, Kafka, RabbitMQ).
- Proficiency with AWS or another major cloud platform.
- Strong understanding of testing strategies, observability, monitoring, and production incident management.
- Ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and make pragmatic decisions.
- Excellent communication skills and experience building teams with high ownership.
- Experience in payments, fintech, or financial transaction systems is highly valued.
- Familiarity with PHP, Node.js/TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of full-stack engineers, creating a high-performing environment with clear ownership and accountability.
- Own the technical execution and engineering quality of the payments platform.
- Partner closely with Product to translate business and product requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Define and evolve the architecture and technical direction of a high-scale distributed payments system.
- Ensure systems are designed for correctness, reliability, scalability, resilience, and maintainability.
- Establish high engineering standards for code quality, testing, observability, and operational readiness.
- Guide engineers through complex technical decisions involving distributed systems, databases, APIs, and third-party integrations.
- Coach and mentor engineers, provide feedback, and support their technical and career growth.
