Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional experience working on teams that build products, including at least 2 years in a security-focused role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading substantial security initiatives through delivery, whether in a senior technical, engineering, or product leadership capacity.
  • Strong professional experience using AI-powered tools for security analysis and other technical activities such as code review and software engineering.
  • Technical fluency and comfort working with command-line tools and learning new technical systems as required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex security topics and collaborate effectively with executives, technical teams, and diverse communities.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, results-oriented environment while making sound decisions under ambiguity.
  • Experience driving outcomes through influence across multiple teams and stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to act decisively and move quickly while balancing the needs of complex stakeholder groups, including volunteer communities.
  • Experience working with public, online, or community-driven environments is highly valuable.
  • Genuine interest in protecting open access to knowledge and contributing to a mission-driven, nonprofit environment.

Responsibilities

  • Shape and advance the organization’s product security strategy, strengthening security practices and culture across teams and the broader community.
  • Define and prioritize the roadmap for engineers working on security and privacy, while coordinating closely with designers, data scientists, community managers, and other cross-functional partners.
  • Drive the design and delivery of technical features, controls, and interventions that help users operate safely while making it more difficult for malicious actors to compromise the platform.
  • Lead significant security initiatives from initial strategy through implementation, ensuring priorities translate into measurable outcomes.
  • Build strong relationships with volunteer communities and serve as a trusted bridge between community stakeholders and internal teams on security and privacy matters.
  • Partner with leaders across the organization to strengthen the broader information security posture and align security priorities with organizational objectives.
  • Communicate clearly and strategically with technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership, staff, and public communities.
  • Monitor emerging developments in cybersecurity, privacy, vulnerability research, and AI-enabled security threats to continuously inform strategy and priorities.
