Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in payments risk, merchant underwriting, boarding operations, credit risk, or financial services.
- 3+ years of experience leading teams or major operational workstreams.
- Deep knowledge of merchant underwriting: KYB/KYC, beneficial ownership, financial statement review, and industry risk.
- Proven track record modernizing boarding processes with automation and straight-through processing.
- Hands-on familiarity with risk and verification vendors (KYB/KYC, fraud, data aggregators, accounting connectors).
- Working knowledge of card brand rules, NACHA, BSA/AML, OFAC, and sponsor bank operating requirements.
- Experience operating in major card processor and sponsor bank environments.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in SQL and comfort analyzing portfolio data.
- Ability to utilize alternative data signals like AR/invoice data to improve underwriting and monitoring.
- Communication skills to explain operational tradeoffs and risk trends to senior stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of underwriters, risk analysts, and boarding specialists supporting payments and lending.
- Redesign the merchant boarding journey to be AI-first with intelligent triage for exceptions.
- Define and operationalize risk appetite, credit policy, and exposure limits across merchant segments.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Compliance to manage technology stacks for KYB/KYC, fraud screening, and decision orchestration.
- Contribute to the buildout of underwriting models for future embedded lending products.
- Own ongoing merchant monitoring including transaction surveillance and fraud indicator analysis.
- Maintain regulatory compliance with NACHA, BSA/AML, OFAC, and card brand rules across US and Canadian operations.
- Serve as the operational contact for sponsor banks and processors regarding audits and risk policy.
