Requirements
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on ownership of close tasks, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Hands-on experience with venture-backed startups, high-growth companies, or similarly dynamic operating environments.
- Working knowledge of US GAAP, including accrual accounting, deferred revenue, leases, inventory, and fixed assets.
- Systems fluency in QuickBooks Online, Excel, Google Sheets, and common finance systems such as payroll, AP, spend management, and billing.
- Experience with multi-entity or multi-currency accounting.
- Experience with complex business models such as SaaS, usage-based revenue, or hardware sales.
- Interest in using AI, automation, and modern workflow tools to improve accounting efficiency.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with clients, founders, or internal stakeholders.
- CPA in progress or equivalent certification preferred.
- Public accounting, audit, or advisory background is a plus.
- Experience with technically complex companies like deeptech, hardtech, or applied AI is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Support the Controller as a secondary contact for assigned client engagements, handling day-to-day client communication as directed.
- Help ensure each assigned client has accurate financials, clean supporting schedules, and a dependable close process.
- Communicate clearly with founders, finance leads, and operators on routine matters, escalating complex or sensitive issues to the Controller.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple client entities.
- Prepare accurate, timely financial statements, reconciliations, workpapers, and reporting packages for Controller review.
- Maintain and improve accounting workflows across the core GL and related upstream systems, including billing, AP, and payroll.
- Apply AI and automation tools to improve efficiency, documentation, and reconciliations.
- Review work prepared by staff accountants and provide feedback.
- Support client onboarding, accounting takeovers, and audit/diligence requests.
