Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in a higher education VA role
- Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience managing a team
- Experience using VA Enrollment Manager or comparable certification system
- Working knowledge of VA benefit programs (Chapters 30, 31, 33, 35, 1606, Tuition Assistance, MyCAA)
- Working knowledge of State Approving Agency requirements and VA compliance standards
- Understanding of FERPA and student data privacy requirements
- High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams)
- Ability to travel for business and work outside regular hours as needed
- Completion of U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs School Certifying Official (SCO) training within 30 days of hire
Responsibilities
- Serve as the institution’s primary School Certifying Official (SCO) and oversee VA operations across all campuses
- Lead, develop, and manage a centralized team of VA Specialists/SCOs, including training and performance management
- Oversee certification and administration of VA educational benefit programs including Chapter 33, 30, 1606, 31, 35, Tuition Assistance, and MyCAA
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of enrollment certifications and required reporting
- Conduct regular audits to maintain compliance with VA regulations, including 85/15 rule and 35% exemption renewal
- Lead preparation for VA audits, compliance reviews, and Risk-Based Surveys
- Develop and implement standardized processes and internal controls to reduce compliance risk
- Serve as primary liaison with the State Approving Agency (SAA)
- Partner with Student Accounts and Financial Aid to ensure accurate billing and administration
