Requirements
- 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
- 5+ years of hands-on database expertise, including schema design, query optimization, scaling, partitioning, and sharding.
- Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
- Deep knowledge of relational and/or distributed SQL databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, TiDB/Vitess).
- Experience building and operating databases in cloud environments.
- Expertise in database benchmarking, load testing, and capacity planning.
- Familiarity with connection poolers and proxies such as ProxySQL, RDS Proxy, and Pg Bouncer.
- Experience delivering major features, system components, or deprecating existing functionality.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
Responsibilities
- Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale, aligned with business-impacting projects.
- Design and build components of a scalable, multi-region, horizontally scalable, and globally available datastore platform.
- Develop control planes for database management and self-service, automating schema migrations, disaster recovery, sharding, and performance tuning.
- Collaborate across product, infrastructure, and site reliability engineering (SRE) teams to ensure technical sustainability.
- Take ownership of team operations, availability, monitoring, triage rotations, and incident response.
- Foster a culture of quality through code review standards and provide guidance to develop talent on the team.
