Requirements
- 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
- Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, Spark, and Kubernetes.
- 5+ years of hands-on database expertise with Relational or Distributed SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL, TiDB/Vitess).
- Deep understanding of database fundamentals including schema design, query optimization, scaling, partitioning, and sharding.
- Experience in database benchmarking, load testing, and capacity planning.
- Familiarity with connection poolers and proxies such as ProxySQL, RDS Proxy, and PgBouncer.
- Experience delivering major features or system components through technical and execution planning.
- Proven ability to thrive in ambiguity and iterate on feedback from cross-functional peers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
Responsibilities
- Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale.
- Design and build components of a scalable datastore platform including multi-region and high-performance solutions.
- Develop control planes for database management, self-service, schema migrations, and disaster recovery.
- Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and SRE teams to ensure technical sustainability.
- Define technical solutions and operational processes to act as a force-multiplier.
- Own team operations, including monitoring, triage, and on-call efforts.
- Establish code review and design standards to foster a culture of quality.
- Mentor team members and provide guidance to develop talent.
