Requirements

- Proven track record of impactful storytelling and editorial excellence
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership or management role
- Expertise in headline writing and story packaging
- High proficiency in copy editing
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Professionalism, flexibility, and strong interpersonal skills
- Must be familiar with Canada's National Observer content and platforms
Responsibilities
- Manage reporter team during afternoon hours
- Supervise evening copy and newsletter production
- Write and package compelling headlines for maximum impact
- Manage project budgets and negotiate freelance contractor agreements
- Oversee editorial calendar to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met
- Design and implement project-based editorial work
- Provide executive coverage for the Editor-in-Chief as needed
- Curate visuals and utilize photo editing tools
- Coordinate social media story packaging
- Recruit, hire, and manage journalism staff and editors
