Requirements
- Deep knowledge of AI safety and/or AI governance research, organizations, and debates.
- High agency and proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to make decisions under time pressure with incomplete information.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build trust with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong project management and organization skills to handle a pipeline of applications.
- Mission and values alignment with effective altruism principles and reasoning transparency.
- Existing networks in AI safety ecosystems or demonstrated ability to build them quickly.
- Experience in grantmaking, investment, policy advising, or technical leadership roles is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and evaluate grant opportunities rigorously, assessing theories of change, team strength, and expected impact.
- Communicate grantmaking reasoning transparently through reports, feedback to applicants, and public writing.
- Source high-quality applications based on strategic insights, professional networks, and fund priorities.
- Collaborate and build partnerships with other funders and organizations.
- Manage relationships with grantees, offering support and guidance.
- Represent the fund at community events and contribute to strategic thinking.
- Build and iterate on grantmaking systems and LLM-assisted workflows to improve efficiency.
