Requirements
- Hands-on experience building agentic or large language model-based systems (multi-step orchestration, tool use, guardrails, and recovery patterns).
- Proven track record of building reliable systems in production environments.
- Strong distributed systems knowledge, including coordination, consistency, idempotency, and failure modes.
- Proficiency in Go, Rust, or Python.
- Ability to read and modify code in languages other than primary language.
- Experience working autonomously in unfamiliar codebases.
- Experience shipping autonomous agents that complete real tasks.
- Knowledge of improving build systems, release processes, or review workflows.
- Experience working with globally distributed teams.
- Knowledge of LLM workload costs and production constraints across various deployment types.
Responsibilities
- Identify sources of friction across the software development lifecycle and scope agentic solutions.
- Design and build reliable AI-powered systems that follow step-by-step workflows and include safety checks.
- Build and maintain evaluation tools that assess agent output for correctness, constraint compliance, and cost.
- Work across the GitLab codebase to address friction points regardless of the service area.
- Apply distributed systems judgment to ensure generated code functions correctly at scale and under concurrency.
- Collaborate with the India-based group, sharing roadmaps, findings, and reusable agent tooling.
- Take ownership of greenfield problems and contribute to potential customer-facing product offerings.
