Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary education in business, finance, accounting, or a related field.
- Professional accounting designation such as CPA (CMA, CGA, or CA).
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive finance experience, including experience managing or leading finance teams.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, including experience with not-for-profit organizations or private enterprises.
- Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, funder reporting, and audit preparation.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to coach teams, build partnerships, and effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial information and provide actionable recommendations.
- Experience managing change, improving processes, and implementing new systems or operational practices.
- Advanced computer skills, including experience with financial systems and tools such as SAP, BOARD, Excel, and Outlook.
Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the finance function, providing direction and support to Finance Managers, Financial Analysts, and Finance Clerks.
- Build and develop high-performing teams through coaching, mentoring, performance planning, and professional development support.
- Oversee general accounting activities, financial reporting processes, and the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements.
- Manage annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities while partnering with operational and corporate teams to support informed decision-making.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting cycles, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and adherence to established deadlines.
- Ensure balance sheet accounts, payroll-related liabilities, and financial records are reconciled, supported, and audit-ready.
- Coordinate external reporting requirements, including funder submissions and audit preparation, while responding to auditor inquiries.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and support the implementation of financial systems, tools, and operational changes.
- Provide complex financial analysis and insights to support strategic planning and business decisions.
- Participate in cross-functional projects, committees, and priority initiatives related to finance transformation and organizational improvements.
