Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar.
- 6+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably with in-house experience at a software or developer tools company.
- Deep familiarity with open source software licensing, including copyleft, permissive regimes, and governance.
- Hands-on experience drafting and negotiating SaaS and cloud services agreements.
- Technical fluency with developer software concepts like containers, CI/CD, and APIs.
- Understanding of AI/LLM legal issues, including model licensing and regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance.
- Proven experience working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
Responsibilities
- Serve as embedded product counsel to Product Managers and Engineering teams for new features, pricing, and end-of-life decisions.
- Advise on open source software matters including license compatibility, contribution policies, and compliance obligations.
- Draft and maintain product-facing legal terms, subscription agreements, and documentation for new monetization models.
- Structure and negotiate commercial provisions in customer and partner agreements regarding licensing, cloud services, and IP.
- Counsel on AI-enabled product features including training data provenance and model licensing.
- Collaborate with GRC on regulatory obligations such as software supply chain security and the EU Cyber Resilience Act.
- Support IP strategy, including trademark guidelines and brand protection.
- Build scalable playbooks and templates for Product and GTM teams.
