Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in geotechnical engineering.
- Experience performing site evaluations and reviewing geotechnical studies for large commercial, institutional, industrial, or federal projects.
- Advanced knowledge of civil engineering principles, geotechnical analysis, construction methods, and related architectural and engineering disciplines.
- Strong understanding of site development, foundation systems, utility infrastructure, drainage systems, and construction materials.
- Ability to interpret and evaluate architectural drawings, engineering plans, technical specifications, and construction documents.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes, safety standards, environmental regulations, and federal requirements.
- Experience supporting environmental considerations, including wetlands, hazardous materials, endangered species, and historical preservation requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex engineering challenges and recommend effective solutions.
- Proficiency with computer applications, including project management tools, scheduling software, spreadsheets, and technical documentation systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare reports, lead meetings, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites and participate in virtual design reviews and technical discussions.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate proposed project sites to determine construction feasibility, including analysis of soil conditions, groundwater characteristics, slope stability, settlement risks, and bearing capacity.
- Develop, review, and validate geotechnical recommendations for foundations, earthwork, excavation, retaining structures, and site preparation.
- Coordinate the design and review of civil infrastructure systems, including grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, wastewater systems, and water distribution networks.
- Review engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation prepared by external design firms to ensure quality, compliance, and constructability.
- Serve as the technical authority for complex geotechnical challenges affecting project scope, cost, schedule, and long-term facility performance.
- Develop engineering guidelines, standards, and design criteria to support consistent delivery of complex institutional projects.
- Participate in value engineering initiatives to optimize site development strategies and reduce construction and operational costs.
- Review construction changes, claims, and field conditions related to geotechnical and civil engineering matters.
- Monitor construction activities to confirm alignment with approved engineering recommendations and project requirements.
- Support environmental reviews, site investigations, permitting activities, procurement efforts, and cost estimation processes.
- Prepare technical analyses, reports, recommendations, and presentations for leadership and project stakeholders.
