Requirements
- 2+ years of professional backend engineering experience.
- Solid grasp of event-driven systems.
- Genuine eagerness to go deep on event sourcing and distributed systems, including consistency, ordering, and failure basics.
- Good API design instincts (REST) with an emphasis on clean contracts and backward compatibility.
- Strong product thinking and focus on user outcomes.
- Ability to work as a 'manager of one' in a remote/async setting.
- High growth drive and willingness to take on unfamiliar, uncomfortable challenges.
- Clear written communication skills.
- Ability and/or willingness to use Camunda's product.
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve features in the event-sourced engine and its C8 REST/gRPC/MCP API.
- Own well-scoped work end-to-end, including implementation, testing, shipping, and writing design notes/ADRs.
- Help ship high-impact engine features like suspending/resuming process instances and enabling AI agents to steer processes.
- Design and consume clean APIs with a focus on developer ergonomics and backward compatibility.
- Detect and optimize inefficient processing and data-access patterns across data stores like RocksDB, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, and Postgres.
- Proactively manage technical debt, maintain code quality through reviews, and participate in on-call support.
