Requirements
- Strong Python development experience including async/await, testing, and type annotations.
- Meaningful experience contributing to large open-source projects (pull requests, code review).
- Experience building integrations, APIs, or software for connected devices.
- Familiarity with device protocols such as Bluetooth, Zigbee, USB, UART, mDNS, SPI, I2C, or MQTT.
- Ability to navigate large, complex, and evolving codebases.
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for integrations and distributed systems.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- High autonomy and ability to drive projects from concept to maintenance.
- Community-oriented mindset with experience in asynchronous collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Own integrations and software support for Nabu Casa products across Home Assistant, ESPHome, and Open Home Foundation ecosystems.
- Build and maintain Python integrations, proxy libraries, and software components for hardware connectivity.
- Write Python software to interface with device protocols and peripherals, translating low-level behavior into user experiences.
- Collaborate with Hardware and Embedded Linux teams to translate hardware capabilities into software integrations.
- Contribute to Home Assistant core and related projects to support integrations, config flows, and entity models.
- Ensure code quality through well-tested, maintainable, and documented Python code.
- Review community pull requests and provide feedback to support integration maintenance.
- Investigate and resolve software, protocol, and compatibility issues.
