Requirements
- Strong embedded Linux experience (Buildroot, Yocto, or similar).
- Deep understanding of Linux OS, system services, hardware bring-up, and platform reliability.
- Experience with bootloaders, partition layouts, OTA update systems, and device lifecycle management.
- Ability to read hardware schematics and datasheets.
- Experience with cross-compilation toolchains and low-level debugging (GDB, strace, serial consoles, JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analysers).
- Proficiency in C/C++ for low-level or driver-related work.
- Strong Python skills for automation and platform scripting.
- Familiarity with embedded operating system security hardening.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
- Strong written communication skills for documentation and public open-source contributions.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve Home Assistant OS support for Nabu Casa hardware platforms.
- Collaborate with Home Assistant OS contributors and Open Home Foundation developers to resolve issues and enable new hardware.
- Support board bring-up including Buildroot configuration, bootloaders, and partition layouts.
- Optimize operating-system performance, stability, and reliability.
- Manage Buildroot-based build infrastructure for efficiency and reproducibility.
- Investigate and resolve platform-level issues like kernel panics, driver failures, and boot regressions.
- Upstream patches to Linux, U-Boot, Buildroot, and other relevant projects.
- Document platform architecture, board status, and debugging procedures.
