- 3+ years of experience as an engineering manager in a startup or mid-sized company.
- Experience leading a platform or infrastructure team operating at scale.
- Strong technical foundations to own and contribute to deeply technical service areas.
- Track record of hiring, growing, and retaining excellent engineers.
- Experience building inclusive and equitable team cultures.
- Judgment to balance delegation with stepping in to resolve critical decisions.
- Experience managing prioritization and focus without a dedicated Product Manager.
- Experience leading on-call rotations and incident response.
- Operational maturity in running high-availability services.
- Strong written communication skills for documentation in a distributed, remote-first environment.
- Familiarity with AI development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex.
Responsibilities
- Hire and build a high-performing platform team from current size to 2–4 additional ICs.
- Own the platform team’s roadmap and prioritization to balance infrastructure reliability against feature delivery.
- Coach and develop team engineers through regular 1-on-1s and stretch projects.
- Contribute to architecture decisions, design reviews, and strategic coding to unblock critical paths.
- Lead incident response, debug production issues, and drive reliability improvements via postmortems.
- Partner with product engineering to define SLAs, metrics, and manage cross-team dependencies.
- Help shape the company's broader engineering culture, standards, and tooling.
