Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as an engineering manager in a startup or mid-sized company.
  • Experience leading a platform or infrastructure team operating at scale.
  • Strong technical foundations to own and contribute to deeply technical service areas.
  • Track record of hiring, growing, and retaining excellent engineers.
  • Experience building inclusive and equitable team cultures.
  • Judgment to balance delegation with stepping in to resolve critical decisions.
  • Experience managing prioritization and focus without a dedicated Product Manager.
  • Experience leading on-call rotations and incident response.
  • Operational maturity in running high-availability services.
  • Strong written communication skills for documentation in a distributed, remote-first environment.
  • Familiarity with AI development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex.

Responsibilities

  • Hire and build a high-performing platform team from current size to 2–4 additional ICs.
  • Own the platform team’s roadmap and prioritization to balance infrastructure reliability against feature delivery.
  • Coach and develop team engineers through regular 1-on-1s and stretch projects.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions, design reviews, and strategic coding to unblock critical paths.
  • Lead incident response, debug production issues, and drive reliability improvements via postmortems.
  • Partner with product engineering to define SLAs, metrics, and manage cross-team dependencies.
  • Help shape the company's broader engineering culture, standards, and tooling.
