Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree in Healthcare or a related field preferred).
  • 3–5 years of experience managing Short-Term Disability (STD) claims.
  • Strong knowledge of disability claims administration, medical terminology, anatomy, and pathology.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Proven ability to make independent claim decisions with sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other business software applications.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex short-term disability claims from initial review through ongoing case management, making timely and accurate claim determinations.
  • Gather, evaluate, and analyze clinical, vocational, financial, and employer information to support informed claim decisions.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate claim documentation while developing and updating claim management plans.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, internal policies, and operational quality standards.
  • Deliver compassionate, customer-focused service by communicating effectively with claimants, employers, healthcare providers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational excellence and continuous process improvement.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced team members while contributing to departmental projects.
