Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience as a Paramedic, EMT, RN, LPN, or prior experience coding emergency medical or pre-hospital care claims preferred.
- Knowledge of medical billing processes, claim workflows, and healthcare documentation standards.
- Strong computer proficiency, including working knowledge of MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Minimum typing speed of 40 WPM with high accuracy.
- Superior attention to detail and strong follow-through capabilities.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining focus.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage a large workload.
- Experience in metrics-driven or performance-scored environments is helpful.
Responsibilities
- Review claims to assign accurate levels of service and required billing details prior to submission.
- Evaluate documentation for medical necessity, service level appropriateness, and regulatory compliance.
- Verify required signatures and clinical indicators needed to support claim adjudication.
- Identify, research, and correct discrepancies in patient info, incident details, and billing data.
- Validate trip mileage and service details against source documentation.
- Apply EMS coding rules and Medicare/Medicaid guidelines to ensure accurate billing.
- Manage high daily claim volume while meeting productivity and accuracy standards.
- Maintain compliant documentation for all coding actions and claim modifications.
- Communicate with internal partners to clarify documentation or resolve coding questions.
