Requirements
- Experience managing platform, infrastructure, or data systems teams at scale.
- Deep distributed systems expertise including fault tolerance, scalability, and service boundaries.
- Technical background in backend and platform engineering.
- Experience with technologies like change data capture, event streaming, and OLAP data stores.
- Ability to hire, develop, and coach team members while contributing technical architecture guidance.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience operating systems across multiple deployment models.
- Strong written communication skills for an all-remote, asynchronous environment.
- Passion for reliability and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Hire, manage, and enable a high-performing Data Insights Platform engineering team.
- Partner with product managers and peer engineering managers to define and deliver the roadmap.
- Own delivery for the team including planning, prioritization, and operational follow-through.
- Guide technical design of distributed data-path components and platform architecture.
- Design safe and scalable integrations with the GitLab monolith.
- Drive security, privacy, and governance standards for platform data.
- Improve operational maturity including observability, metrics, and capacity planning.
- Collaborate asynchronously to land customer-facing reporting capabilities.
- Lead the design and evolution of the platform with a focus on modular architecture.
