Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience in liability claims handling or a related insurance field.
  • Active adjuster’s license in applicable states or ability to obtain and maintain required licensing.
  • Strong knowledge of comparative and contributory negligence, joint and several liability, and pro-rata fault principles.
  • Experience handling auto liability or bodily injury claims is highly transferable and preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate liability and make defensible claims decisions.
  • Strong investigative and analytical skills with the ability to assess complex loss scenarios.
  • Confident negotiation skills, particularly in disputed liability or contested damage situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong documentation capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple claims simultaneously in a fast-paced, remote environment.
  • Self-motivated professional with strong judgment, accountability, and decision-making ability.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of homeowners liability claims, primarily renters and condo cases, from first notice of loss through resolution.
  • Conduct detailed investigations to evaluate liability, including analysis of statements, reports, evidence, and loss circumstances.
  • Apply state-specific liability laws, including comparative and contributory negligence principles, to determine proportionate fault and defensible outcomes.
  • Establish claim strategies and action plans aligned with internal guidelines, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  • Assess coverage and policy language, clearly communicating determinations and potential coverage issues to insureds and stakeholders.
  • Set and manage reserves, ensuring appropriate financial exposure while escalating complex or high-value matters when necessary.
  • Negotiate settlements within assigned authority, confidently defending liability positions and achieving fair outcomes.
  • Document claims thoroughly and prepare clear, accurate reports for internal teams, clients, and external partners.
  • Collaborate with policyholders, claimants, attorneys, vendors, and other parties throughout the lifecycle of each claim.
  • Identify emerging claim trends and communicate insights to leadership and underwriting teams.
