Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience in liability claims handling or a related insurance field.
- Active adjuster’s license in applicable states or ability to obtain and maintain required licensing.
- Strong knowledge of comparative and contributory negligence, joint and several liability, and pro-rata fault principles.
- Experience handling auto liability or bodily injury claims is highly transferable and preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate liability and make defensible claims decisions.
- Strong investigative and analytical skills with the ability to assess complex loss scenarios.
- Confident negotiation skills, particularly in disputed liability or contested damage situations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong documentation capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple claims simultaneously in a fast-paced, remote environment.
- Self-motivated professional with strong judgment, accountability, and decision-making ability.
Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of homeowners liability claims, primarily renters and condo cases, from first notice of loss through resolution.
- Conduct detailed investigations to evaluate liability, including analysis of statements, reports, evidence, and loss circumstances.
- Apply state-specific liability laws, including comparative and contributory negligence principles, to determine proportionate fault and defensible outcomes.
- Establish claim strategies and action plans aligned with internal guidelines, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
- Assess coverage and policy language, clearly communicating determinations and potential coverage issues to insureds and stakeholders.
- Set and manage reserves, ensuring appropriate financial exposure while escalating complex or high-value matters when necessary.
- Negotiate settlements within assigned authority, confidently defending liability positions and achieving fair outcomes.
- Document claims thoroughly and prepare clear, accurate reports for internal teams, clients, and external partners.
- Collaborate with policyholders, claimants, attorneys, vendors, and other parties throughout the lifecycle of each claim.
- Identify emerging claim trends and communicate insights to leadership and underwriting teams.
