Requirements
- Must hold at least one of these certifications: CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CPC, or CCS-P
- Prior experience performing Release of Information (ROI) services
- Knowledge of HIPAA and Privacy Act requirements
- Understanding of CMS, AMA CPT, and ICD-10-CM/PCS standards
- Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to meet VHA credentialing and security clearance requirements
Responsibilities
- Process requests for Protected Health Information (PHI)
- Validate authorization for record requests
- Retrieve and release medical records
- Log requests and maintain documentation
- Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA, Privacy Act, and VHA policies
- Ensure accuracy of released information per CMS, AMA CPT, and ICD-10-CM/PCS standards
- Safeguard PHI and maintain confidentiality
- Interact professionally with veterans and legal representatives
