Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in multi-state sales and use tax or indirect tax compliance.
- Strong understanding of sales and use tax rules, including taxability, exemptions, and reporting requirements.
- Hands-on experience preparing and filing sales and use tax returns.
- Experience with tax compliance software such as Avalara, Vertex, or similar platforms.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with accounting or ERP systems such as NetSuite or QuickBooks.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-client environment.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex tax regulations.
- Strong communication skills to support both internal collaboration and client-facing interactions.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote, high-accountability environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- Professional certifications such as CMI-Sales Tax are a plus, along with experience in SaaS or consulting environments.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and file multi-state sales and use tax returns, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and deadlines.
- Analyze transactional data, invoices, and financial records to determine taxability and ensure accurate reporting.
- Reconcile sales and use tax general ledger accounts and maintain audit-ready documentation and workpapers.
- Monitor nexus exposure, registration requirements, and ongoing state and local compliance obligations.
- Serve as a point of contact for client inquiries, tax notices, audits, and communications with taxing authorities.
- Conduct tax research, support exemption certificate management, voluntary disclosure agreements, and refund claims.
- Advise internal teams and clients on taxability of products, services, and digital offerings.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support tax system configurations, integrations, and automation initiatives.
- Maintain internal compliance calendars and contribute to process improvements and operational efficiency initiatives.
- Participate in training, internal meetings, and knowledge-sharing to support continuous professional development.
