Requirements

  • Expertise in nonprofit financial management, GAAP accounting, audit review, or investment strategy
  • Expertise in nonprofit law, governance, IRS compliance for 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities, or international grantmaking
  • Expertise in development strategy, donor relations, philanthropy, or resource mobilization
  • Experience as a Rights Advocate, preferably in Disability Rights or other movements in the Global South
  • Passion for DRF's mission and work
  • Be a person with disabilities (at least 50% of the board)
  • Represent regions and countries where DRF operates

Responsibilities

  • Set vision, mission, values, and strategic direction in partnership with leadership
  • Monitor organizational performance against strategic goals
  • Provide financial oversight and protect organizational assets
  • Ensure effective fundraising strategy and participate in fundraising efforts
  • Select, oversee, and evaluate the Executive Director
  • Maintain highest standards of governance and ethical conduct
  • Uphold fiduciary duties of care, loyalty, and obedience
  • Actively participate in 4-6 virtual board meetings per year (2 hours each)
  • Attend one annual in-person meeting
  • Participate in monthly or quarterly committee meetings (Governance, Finance, or Program Committee)
  • Review materials in advance of meetings and actively participate in discussions
  • Contribute to DRF's financial stability through personal gifts, fundraising efforts, or donor introductions
