Requirements:
Licenses/Certifications; CCS, RHIT, RHIA preferred. Must have a minimum of 3-5 years experience in Acute Care Hospital. Experience with IP/OP edits and complex case mixes. Extensive knowledge of ICD-10 CM/PCS coding principles and guidelines. Familiarity with DRG Assignment, MCC/CC capture, and regulations pertaining to coding and billing. Proficient in EHR systems and support software such as 3M 360 and Cerner. Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes. Critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
Responsibilities:
Assign ICD10 CM Diagnosis Codes and ICD 10 PCS Procedure Codes for assigned accounts. Perform IP/OP edits and select principal and secondary diagnosis and procedure codes. Assign appropriate DRG and review medical records to determine appropriate codes. Demonstrate accuracy and consistency in abstracting elements as defined by the facility. Maintain productivity standards, tracking logs, and deadlines. Act as a mentor to training coders and/or new hires. Maintain current knowledge of Coding Clinic and Official Inpatient Guidelines.
