Squarespace's backend primarily utilizes Java and Scala, with core logic built around the JVM. They employ a proprietary, fully-hosted infrastructure, including Oracle Coherence for re-balancing and caching layers, and an Isilon cluster for storage. The platform's front-end uses modern JavaScript frameworks like React for intuitive drag-and-drop editing experiences. This robust architecture allows them to handle hundreds of millions of requests monthly while maintaining scalability and reliability.
