About Wing

Imagine a world where essential goods arrive at your doorstep in minutes, not hours or days. Wing is transforming this vision into reality, building custom-designed aircraft and advanced Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) traffic management (UTM) systems for safe, reliable, and efficient drone delivery. A subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., Wing has been at the forefront of drone delivery since its first deliveries in 2014, graduating from Google X in 2018. Their drones are engineered for small parcel delivery, capable of flying 20km round trips at 130km/h, and can operate in various weather conditions, including wind and moderate rain. Wing's UTM system plans optimal routes, avoiding obstacles and other drones, while adhering to aviation regulations, and their aircraft feature multiple redundancies for enhanced safety. With hundreds of thousands of deliveries across three continents, Wing is rapidly expanding its services, including a significant partnership with Walmart to deliver to millions of potential customers.

How We Work

Wing fosters a collaborative and open culture, where teams tackle complex challenges in a rapidly evolving industry. They believe in empowering individuals to solve problems and contribute to shaping the future of drone delivery. Wing emphasizes continuous learning and development, providing opportunities like workshops and fireside chats to support career growth.

Engineering at Wing

Wing's technical innovation lies in both its custom-designed delivery drones and its sophisticated UAS traffic management (UTM) system. Their drones are built with horizontally-oriented propellers and a fixed-wing design for efficient long-distance travel, taking off vertically and transitioning to forward flight. Safety is paramount, with multiple redundant systems ensuring continued flight even if a component malfunctions. The UTM system is the brain behind operations, optimizing routes for time and distance, ensuring obstacle-free flight paths, and coordinating with other Wing drones. This system also includes black and white cameras for obstacle detection while prioritizing privacy. Engineers at Wing are solving challenges related to autonomous flight, real-time obstacle avoidance, and scalable air traffic management for a future with thousands of drones in the air simultaneously.
