Staff Backend Engineer, Messaging Platform

Requirements:

• A proven career as a software engineer developing backend applications and APIs.
• 8+ years experience using Golang (Kafka and MongoDB a plus). SaaS experience preferred.
• Experience with or exposure to migration off a monolithic architecture is a plus.
• Familiarity with building, deploying, and maintaining applications on AWS services using Terraform.
• Expertise in NoSQL and SQL, and experience with database modeling (Postgres, MongoDB).
• Experience building modular, flexible architectures.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience in high growth, early stage tech preferred.
• Experience coaching, mentoring, and onboarding engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Architect, build, and maintain the core infrastructure across the platforms – messaging, data, and workflow.
• Maintain and create REST and gRPC APIs for external and internal customers.
• Define contracts between the platforms and enforce consistency in coding and data.
• Identify bottlenecks and points of scale and make recommendations on maximizing throughput and efficiency, then lead the team to implement.
• Work closely with the Director of Engineering to create and evolve a technical strategy.
• Take ownership and be creative with solutions.
• Contribute to the health of teams through mentorship and feedback.
• Guide the team in making optimal technical and infrastructure decisions.
• Mentor engineers on best practices and standards.
• Communicate transparently and proactively.
