Requirements
- Have 2+ years working in a senior engineering role, not only 2+ years of total experience.
- Have a track record of owning products or major features end-to-end.
- Have start-up or scale-up experience shipping solutions to unclear business problems without a detailed specification.
- Have several years of professional experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
- Bring solid PostgreSQL depth, including JSONB, query performance, and migrations.
- Be confident with Next.js and React Query on the frontend, and Express and BullMQ on the backend.
- Have experience with AWS infrastructure, including ECS and RDS.
- Have hands-on experience building and running AI pipelines in production, beyond simply calling an API.
- Use AI tools such as Claude Code or Cursor in your daily workflow.
- Explain technical trade-offs clearly to non-technical colleagues; clear written and spoken English is required.
- German at B1 level or above is a plus, not a requirement.
- Experience with AI agents, tool-calling workflows in production, or Terraform is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Own features end-to-end, from discovery with the grant team through the user interface and production.
- Turn ambiguous business problems into technical plans, ship a first version quickly, and iterate.
- Advance the AI pipeline through prompt engineering, context management, cost control, and a multi-provider setup.
- Build and own AI evaluation practices for prompt quality, model selection, and regression detection.
- Operate, monitor, and debug the live production environment using Sentry, CloudWatch, and PostgreSQL performance monitoring.
- Make architecture decisions and shape code quality, engineering standards, and the technical roadmap.
- Build usable interfaces for grant writers.
- Develop features, reliability, and automation to shorten the time from project start to submitted application.
