Job Details

Have experience directly managing engineers.
Demonstrate a track record of developing people, setting clear expectations and addressing performance honestly.
Show evidence of improving engineering team delivery, including flow, sequencing, dependencies and commitments.
Be able to help teams identify delivery problems early.
Have a hands-on software engineering background sufficient to communicate with engineers and challenge at the right level.
Be comfortable and current with AI-assisted development and able to guide its use while maintaining quality.
Use pragmatic judgment to assess risk and determine when work needs additional care or can be shipped and iterated.
Be product-minded and connect engineering work to learner outcomes.
Work collaboratively with product and design and build relationships across commercial teams.
Have experience working with senior stakeholders and excellent communication skills.

Manage, develop and support the assistive technology engineers through clear expectations, feedback and investment in their growth.
Own delivery across two squads, including sequencing, scope, commitments and trade-offs.
Give the business an honest view of what is achievable.
Coach tech leads and squads to improve how they work.
Build reporting that helps the team assess and improve delivery.
Lead the team's use of AI in development alongside the Principal Engineer, including human review where it matters.
Partner with product, design and commercial teams to direct engineering effort toward value for learners and institutions.
Hold engineers accountable for engineering, security and compliance standards.
