Requirements
- Have 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and maintaining production software.
- Have strong experience across frontend and backend systems and independently deliver features throughout the application stack.
- Be proficient with Python or a similar programming language and have experience with Django or a comparable web framework.
- Have experience building user-facing applications with Vue.js or another modern JavaScript framework.
- Have experience with Elasticsearch or a comparable search technology, or significant experience working with data-intensive systems.
- Have experience making technical trade-offs in complex production systems while balancing delivery needs with long-term quality.
- Have experience diagnosing production issues and contributing to system reliability and operational health.
- Have experience with TypeScript in a large codebase.
- Have experience with design systems or shared component libraries.
- Be flexible about adjusting working hours to overlap with teammates in US time zones.
- Be able to travel up to 10% and attend the annual company offsite.
Responsibilities
- Own and deliver customer-facing search features and workflows across frontend and backend systems, from technical planning through production.
- Build AI-powered product experiences, including the services behind them and the interfaces that make their output useful and trustworthy.
- Build user experiences using Vue while contributing to Python and Django services.
- Design and improve search, indexing, and retrieval systems for content discovery across large volumes of data.
- Build and maintain features and data workflows using technologies such as Elasticsearch, Kafka, Celery, and MySQL.
- Make technical decisions that balance customer experience, delivery speed, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and engineering teammates to shape solutions and deliver customer experiences.
- Troubleshoot production issues and improve performance, reliability, observability, and maintainability.
- Participate in an on-call and incident response rotation to diagnose and resolve production issues.
