Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in the design and construction industry in design management, technical program management, architecture, engineering, or construction.
  • Experience leading design from problem definition or concept through construction documents and Construction Administration.
  • Experience delivering at least one lab, test, or research facility; first-of-a-kind pilot or prototype building system; significant value engineering program; or rapid-response design fix on a live site.
  • Direct experience scoping, procuring, negotiating, and administering AE, specialist consultant, and vendor contracts, including non-standard scopes.
  • Technical grounding across architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil disciplines.
  • Construction Administration experience covering RFIs, submittals, field issue resolution, and close-out on a fast-paced construction program.
  • Strong design technology literacy and comfort working in BIM environments, coordination tools, and document management platforms.
  • Experience defining problems from vague starting points, building plans, assembling teams, and delivering projects.
  • Ability to run meetings, document decisions, track actions, and align multiple parties to tight schedules.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with Design Innovation, Construction, Operations, vendors, and research partners.
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Own design accountability for a changing portfolio of innovation and pilot projects, lab and test facilities, value engineering initiatives, and critical site issue resolutions.
  • Define project objectives, success criteria, scope, budget, schedule, risks, and required teams.
  • Build and manage design schedules for concurrent projects, sequencing deliverables around procurement, construction, and testing milestones.
  • Partner with Design Innovation to turn concepts and research questions into projects with test plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Lead design of lab, test, and validation facilities and first-of-a-kind modular, prefabricated, cooling, power, and building-system pilots.
  • Scope and lead value engineering studies, assess alternatives with project partners, and integrate adopted outcomes into standards and live projects.
  • Mobilize consultants and vendors to resolve critical live-site design issues with coordinated, buildable solutions.
  • Procure and manage AE firms, specialist consultants, research partners, and vendors, including defining scopes, issuing RFPs, negotiating fees, and administering contracts.
  • Coordinate internal stakeholders and external partners; run requirements, design reviews, and model-based coordination; and deliver coordinated construction documents.
  • Lead Construction Administration, resolve RFIs and field issues, support site visits and commissioning, and deliver close-out documentation and lessons learned.
