Requirements
- At least six years of hands-on Java backend development experience; Java 17 or a comparable modern version is preferred.
- Strong experience with Spring Boot 2.x or 3.x and Hibernate 5.x or 6.x in production-grade applications.
- Experience building scalable distributed systems, developing REST APIs, and integrating services across complex application environments.
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL, relational database modeling, and data persistence using Hibernate or related technologies.
- Experience implementing event-driven architectures and asynchronous processing with Apache Kafka or similar messaging and streaming platforms.
- Familiarity with functional programming principles, including immutability, pure functions, and concurrency-aware design.
- Hands-on familiarity with LLM-based applications and agentic workflows, including RAG pipelines, tool interactions, and orchestration.
- Regular use of AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot, with the ability to validate generated code and maintain software quality.
- Proficiency with Git, Maven, testing frameworks, debugging techniques, and end-to-end software delivery.
- Professional fluency in English at B2 level or above; C1 is preferred.
- Ability to work fully remotely from an eligible European country, subject to contractual and country-specific requirements.
- Preferred: familiarity with MCP, autonomous agents, or multi-agent workflows; Scala, Kotlin, or Vavr; Elasticsearch, vector search, embeddings, Redis, or performance optimization; Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform, or CI/CD.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, and optimize backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Own software features from requirements and implementation through testing, debugging, deployment, and ongoing improvement.
- Build and maintain REST APIs for web applications, mobile experiences, and external integrations.
- Develop distributed services and improve their reliability, scalability, and communication between components.
- Implement asynchronous processing and event-driven workflows using Apache Kafka or comparable technologies.
- Design and maintain relational data models using PostgreSQL and Hibernate.
- Apply LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, agent-tool interactions, and orchestration to backend capabilities and automation workflows.
- Use AI-assisted development tools while maintaining code quality, testing, security, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with product managers and engineers to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Identify and implement improvements to performance, reliability, maintainability, and development efficiency.
