Requirements
- Have 5+ years of backend development experience.
- Have at least 2 years focused on data platforms and backend infrastructure for data-centric applications, including transactional systems, event pipelines, and APIs.
- Demonstrate strong SQL proficiency and production experience using PostgreSQL as an application database.
- Be able to write and tune SQL queries by hand and reason about schema design, indexes, and query plans.
- Have hands-on experience with Kafka or an equivalent event-processing system such as RabbitMQ, Pulsar, Amazon Kinesis, or another cloud-based equivalent.
- Be proficient in Julia or Python.
- Have experience deploying and operating services in containerized environments.
- Have familiarity with Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and/or Helm.
- Have experience with GraphQL and TypeScript/JavaScript (Node.js).
- Be able to collaborate across disciplines and communicate effectively in written and verbal, asynchronous and remote-friendly environments.
- Have a self-directed approach and a track record of thriving in hybrid or fully remote teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and integrate services and components for data and event processing.
- Own the pipelines that deliver dataset snapshots into the warehouse.
- Collaborate with platform and application teams to implement APIs for new workflows.
- Partner with product managers, scientific and clinical stakeholders, and development and support teams to translate requirements into integrations, services, and solutions.
- Implement features with attention to data integrity, design soundness, and maintainability.
- Draft RFCs to lead complex feature discovery and technical design, solicit input, and align the team on decisions.
- Ensure data moving between systems is complete, idempotent, and predictable under partial failure.
- Improve Datastore operational robustness and ease of use through documentation, tools, and dashboards.
