Requirements
- Have 10+ years building back-end and platform systems.
- Have personally shipped a multi-tenant SaaS platform or control plane on Kubernetes in the last three years, writing production code as the technical decision-maker.
- Have designed a domain data model for a complex operational system, including assets, hierarchies, time series, and events, and owned its evolution across releases.
- Have made compatibility, versioning, and migration decisions for an evolving data model.
- Have delivered telemetry-scale retrieval performance using time-series and relational storage, such as PostgreSQL with TimescaleDB or an equivalent, and a columnar engine such as ClickHouse for analytical and AI workloads.
- Have designed queries for live and analytical workloads over long histories and met API latency targets.
- Have hands-on experience building on GCP, AWS, or Azure with Kubernetes and Helm.
- Have built identity, tenancy, and security by design into enterprise SaaS.
- Have designed and published an API or data-model specification that other teams built against, and written architecture decisions engineers used.
- Have been a senior individual contributor on foundational platform production code.
- Preferred: experience with agentic coding tools and directing and reviewing agent-written code at volume.
- Preferred: knowledge of DCIM products, Kafka-compatible streaming, MQTT brokers, OpenTelemetry, or integrating large language models into a platform.
Responsibilities
- Build the platform’s control plane and tenancy, and own the first code merged on the new platform.
- Design and evolve the unified data model, and publish it with the public API as a specification for others to build against.
- Define platform architecture around data stores, identity and multi-tenancy, and the API layer.
- Own storage choices, query patterns, latency targets, and tenant isolation for live, analytical, and AI workloads at telemetry scale.
- Choose the technology stack and platform standards, recommend the starting cloud, and plan for portability.
- Design platform integration with large language models and other AI services for operational insights, recommendations, and natural-language access to operational data.
- Define, with Integrations, the contract for site data entering the platform.
- Give technical direction to engineers joining the platform and establish patterns for the team.
